“Road Trip” opened on Wednesday night 26th August at BRAG to an eager crowd of locals, the 24 works certainly engaged those attending and there was animated discussion on various stories portrayed.
‘Road Trip’ is a series of stories documenting the story of a generation.
I wanted to create a body of work that reconnects us to our recent past; we left it behind so quickly and seem to have forgotten where we came from.
The night was ‘capped off’ with another road trip story; - my car had a flat battery and not being in the RACQ meant that I had to rely on the kindness of strangers, Bundaberg is a friendly place. I am grateful to two cabbie named Frank and John who saved the day with a ‘jump start’ and added some stories of their own that may yet find their way onto canvas.

Martaerials opens at Clovely Estate Wines in Red Hill
Posted 10th of August 2008

What a great night, the exhibition opening was well attended and there were plenty of sales and great feedback on the works on show. This was the first exhibition to be held here at the Clovely Estate Wines Cellar Door' at 210 Musgrave Road, Red Hill. There will be many more exhibitions held here so 'watch this space'.
The show was opened by Brett Heading and I followed with a talk about the thinking behind the unusual perspective I use to represent our landscape.
Thank you to everyone at Clovely Estate Wines and to all who attended, it was a pleasure to be there.
For those who missed the opening you can still go and see the works, the 'Cellar Door' is open 11am to 7pm Tuesday to Friday and 11am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.

Martaerials is an exhibition of aerial perspectives of the Australian landscape.
Introduced about 8 years ago, my aerial perspective paintings have been highly sought after.
Works from this series has brought many awards and a lot of recognition to my work. Aerial perspectives are not new but there is no one out there painting them as I do. Martaerials are a uniquely original style, making them distinctive even though the Australian landscape has long been used as a source of inspiration.
These works link the outback to the urban scape, they are metaphors for those places of peace and solitude so hard to find in a world that rarely takes the time to see the sun rise or even set.We think of the outback as arid, but it is immensely rich and spiritual. For many of us, the truly arid landscape is our urban world.
I like that my work is true to Australia and its harshness, these are not meant to be pretty pictures; they actively narrate the experience of our time.
